Glow Before You Go

Glow Before You Go!

Getting into your bikini doesn’t have to be a dreadful experience the first day on your vacation. Book your organic airbrush tan before you go and feel confident jumping into your bikini!

Don’t forget to wear sunblock! Airbrush tans do no have SPF and do not protect you from the UV rays of the sun. Although airbrush tanning gives you the appearance that you are tan it is just a cosmetic tan so wear sun screen to prevent the skin from burning.

A big question we get is, “Will sunscreen harm my airbrush tan.” The answer is “Yes, if you don’t use the right sunscreen”. Depending on which sunscreen you use, the ingredients can actually dry out your skin shortening the length of your airbrush tan. When your skin is dry your sunless tan fades quicker.

There are two different types of sun protection you can choose from. The first type is sunscreen which is the most popular and allows you to get a tan by absorbing the sun rays. Sunscreen absorbs into the skin and is easy to apply and need to be reapplied every few hours. Although you have sunscreen on you can still get color. The second type of sun protection is sunblock which blocks the sun rays all together. Sunblock, when applied, does not absorb into the skin and is usually white in color. An example of sunblock is Zinc Oxide.

When choosing a sun protection that won’t harm your airbrush tan you need to look out for two ingredients: oil and alcohol. You want to avoid any products all together that have oil and alcohol when you have an airbrush tan. Look for bottles labeled “Oil Free” or “Alcohol Free”. These two ingredients will dry out your skin and break down your tan shortening the life of your tan. We have found that most sunscreens contain either one or both of these ingredients. So we suggest moisturizing with a great moisturizer before you apply your sunscreen to prevent your skin from drying out. If you find any sunscreen that does not contain any oil or alcohol please let us know the name and where we can find it! Here are some of our suggestions:

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Bodymist Sunscreen

If you are looking for quick and convenient application, this spray on sunscreen may be for you. Also oil free, this sunscreen comes in SPF 30 and SPF 45 and is applied by way of a light mist. This sunscreen is ideal for the body (not the face) as it is easy to apply to hard-to-reach areas. This sunscreen contains a small amount of alcohol, so we recommend moisturizing skin with a thick, good quality moisturizer before application.

Coppertone Oil Free Faces and Oil Free Lotion

Coppertone has a line of oil-free sunscreens that are hypoallergenic and also contain no fragrance. Faces comes in SPF 30 and body comes in SPF 15. This sunscreen is also water resistant for up to 80 minutes. Loreal Advanced Suncare Quick Dry Sheer Finish Spray

An excellent option for easy application, this sunscreen is applied in a gentle mist and is alcohol and oil free. Available in SPF 50 and SPF 30, it provides broad spectrum protection from UVA/UVB rays. It is recommended for body and face, but is not water proof so will have to be applied after swimming.
